A driver allegedly racing another motorist on the Bay Bridge Wednesday crashed in the Yerba Buena Tunnel, causing multiple lanes to close for nearly two hours.
The wreck, which was reported at about 6:40 p.m., closed three lanes of eastbound Interstate 80 on the bridge and sent two people to the hospital, according to authorities.
The crash left a white sedan and a pickup truck disabled in the road.
Witnesses saw the sedan racing with another vehicle toward the East Bay prior to the collision, California Highway Patrol Officer Andrew Barclay said. The pickup truck did not appear to be involved in the race, the CHP spokesperson said.
Two people were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, Barclay said. He was not aware of any arrests made Wednesday night.
Two lanes reopened after about an hour, department logs show, with the fast lane remaining closed until around 8:30 p.m.
