The 2026 primary election in June includes a large field of candidates for California governor and challengers seeking to unseat Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. They’re facing a wide range of issues that affect Los Angeles residents and voters around the nation’s most populous state.

NBC4 and Telemundo 52 will host two live, hour-long debates featuring the top-polling candidates for governor and Los Angeles mayor May 6 and the Skirball Center in Los Angeles. The debates will air back-to-back, starting with the mayoral debate at 5 p.m. The gubernatorial debate is scheduled for 7 p.m.

NBC4 News anchor Colleen Williams, NBC4 chief political reporter Conan Nolan and Noticiero Telemundo 52 news anchor Enrique Chiabra will moderate the debates.

The debates are being held in partnership with Loyola Marymount University (LMU) and the Skirball Cultural Center.

In addition to being available on the broadcast channels, the live events will stream on nbcla.com, telemundo52.com, on the free NBCLA and Telemundo 52 mobile apps and on the stations’ free 24/7 local news streaming channels NBC Los Angeles News and Noticias Telemundo California which are accessible on Amazon Fire TV, Roku, and Samsung TV Plus.
