SACRAMENTO, Calif. – U.S. District Judge Troy Nunley sentenced Joseph Allen Davis, 20 to 30 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm in a case connected to a shooting at a Davis park.
Law enforcement officials say they began investigating Davis after identifying him as a shooter in the April 12, 2025, incident at Rainbow City Park in Davis which resulted in 3 people being injured by gunfire during the shooting.
Authorities began investigating 19-year-old Joseph Allen Davis after he was identified as a shooter in an April 12 incident at Rainbow City Park in Davis, California. During this event, three people were injured by gunfire.
Detectives say they searched Davis’s apartment and seized a short-barrel AR-15-style pistol loaded with 23 rounds of ammunition.
Authorities say Davis was prohibited from possessing any firearms or ammunition because he had previously been convicted of a felony gun possession offense.
A federal grand jury has indicted Joseph Allen Davis for allegedly being a felon in possession of a firearm, following the April 2025 shooting at Davis’s Rainbow City Park.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation with assistance from the Davis Police Department, the Sacramento Police Department, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office and the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Lee prosecuted the case.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that uses the full resources of the Department of Justice to combat illegal immigration, eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations and protect communities from violent crime.
