The Original Echo Park Clubhouse, L.A. Historic-Cultural Monument No. 950, would be convert into a restaurant under an application filed with city planning. The Craftsman-style structure at 1004 N. Echo Park Ave. sits across the street from Echo Park Lake. Built in 1908 as a clubhouse, and transported to its current location in the 1920s, it is believed to be the oldest intact structure commissioned by the City of Los Angeles. It has at various times been owned by the International Foursquare Church (Angelus Temple) and the Episcopal Church, before changing owners last year to MFR Capital LLC. The new restaurant at that location would have 25 seats and serve beer and wine.

Highland Park

The Bob Baker Marionette Theater is buying its own building after years as a renter. The 62-year-old puppet theater company said it has entered into a purchase agreement of $5 million for a property at the corner of York Boulevard and North Avenue 50. Built originally as the York Theater in 1925, the newly purchased space hosted movies and vaudeville performances. Most recently, it was the Pyong Kang First Congregational Church. L.A. Times

Local interior designer Rebecca J. Hansen is participating in this year’s Pasadena Showcase House of Design, in which various decorators each work on different sections of a selected home. This year’s showcase is the Baldwin Oaks Estate in Arcadia, where Hansen, whose office is in Highland Park, was assigned the vestibule and powder room, a space that Hansen calls “bold and whimsical.” The showcase is open through May 17. Tickets are available to tour the house, with proceeds supporting various music programs.
