In its final regular season match, the Youngstown State women’s tennis team will travel to Oakland on Saturday for a Horizon League matchup with the Golden Grizzlies.

First serve is set for 4:30 p.m. at Bloomfield Tennis & Fitness.

YSU enters the weekend sitting atop the league standings with a 3-1 record in conference play and a 10-10 mark overall. In their last two league matchups, the Penguins earned 6-1 victories over IU Indy and Northern Kentucky.

Oakland is currently tied for second place with Milwaukee, as both teams hold 2-1 records in conference play.

A YSU win will give them a share of the regular-season league tile with the Panthers. The Panthers have two HL matches remaining as they host IU Indy and NKU. Additionally, a win for the Guins would secure either the No. 1 or No. 2 seed in the Horizon League Championships and a bye into the semifinals.

Oakland is coming off of a 7-0 loss to Big Ten opponent Michigan on April 12. In its most recent conference match, the Grizzlies earned a 5-2 win over Northern Kentucky on April 4.

Youngstown State leads the all-time series 13-2 and has won the last six meetings.

With both Milwaukee (2-1) and Oakland (2-1) having one more match remaining than YSU, a loss could result in the Penguins dropping to the No. 3 seed. Milwaukee holds the head-to-head tiebreaker after defeating YSU 5-2 earlier this season.

Three Penguins have recorded double-digit dual victories this spring, with Lorena Cedeno leading the way with 12. Yeseniia Ovcharova and Hanna Telzynska each have 10 victories. Telzynska was recently named the Horizon League Singles Player of the Week. She has earned the honor on three occasions.

In singles, Ovcharova is undefeated in league play with a 4-0 record. Line Greyling and Cedeno are 3-1 against Horizon League opponents this month.
