The National Weather Service has issued flood advisories across the Bay Area for Monday evening, due to potential flooding caused by excessive rainfall.

Advisories are in effect in San Francisco, northwestern San Mateo County, northwestern Alameda and western Contra Costa counties until 6:45 p.m. Monday; the alerts include Daly City, South San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley and Walnut Creek.

An advisory for southeastern San Mateo and northwestern Santa Cruz counties last slightly longer, until 7:15 p.m. And an advisory for south central Alameda, northwestern Santa Clara and north central Santa Cruz counties lasts until 8:00 p.m. This includes San Jose, Fremont and Sunnyvale.

A flood advisory is also in effect in southeastern Marin, southeastern Napa and southeastern Sonoma counties until 6:30 p.m. Monday; the alert includes the cities of Napa, San Rafael and Novato.

Up to 1 inch of rain had already fallen in some of these places by Monday afternoon, with thunderstorms producing heavy rain at times. A flash flood warning in the area of the Pickett Fire burn scar in Napa County was also in effect due to excessive rainfall, which brought the potential for damaging debris flows.

Additional rain could cause urban and small stream flooding, according to the weather service alerts. Forecasters expect up to an additional half inch of rainfall this evening — and up to one inch for the North Bay — and warn drivers to be aware of their surroundings and to avoid driving on flooded roads.
