A Warren man who was reportedly working as a volunteer middle school coach in Oakland County is headed to prison for sex crimes against a teenage girl.

At a hearing Wednesday in Oakland County Circuit Court, Visiting Judge Amy Ronayne sentenced Dorien Derrell Jackson, 21, to 5-15 years behind bars for two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct involving force. The assault happened in Waterford Township in March 2024. Charges were filed seven months later, and Jackson’s jury trial was held in January.

Jail credit of 78 days was applied to the sentence.

Jackson is in the Oakland County Jail, awaiting transport to the Michigan Department of Corrections. His $5,000 personal recognizance bond was revoked when he was convicted.

As reported by a local TV station, Jackson was a volunteer wrestling coach at Clifford Smart Middle School in Commerce Township, part of the Walled Lake Consolidated Schools. The Oakland Press reached out to the school district for information but got no response..

The station also reported that Nayal Maktari, Clifford Smart Middle School principal, sent a letter to families of the school’s wrestlers, stating “a volunteer who previously attended CHS wrestling team practices has been removed from participating in team activities,” and that the “incident in question” didn’t involve events, facilities or property in the school district. Jackson was banned from school property and from engaging in district activities, the letter stated.

According to court records, the charges against Jackson arose from an incident with a then-16 year-old girl who met him through a mutual friend — and months later had a couple sessions with him at a fitness facility where he worked as a personal trainer. The victim said she and Jackson had initially agreed to get together for sexual relations, but it became violent and nonconsensual — with Jackson ignoring her pleas and cries for him to stop. The assault happened in Jackson’s car in the parking lot of a church in Waterford.

The victim reportedly suffered internal and external injuries to her genital area.

Court records also show Jackson previously lived in Pontiac and Oak Park.
