SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — All southbound lanes of Interstate 805 between Interstate 5 and Governor Drive in San Diego have reopened following a weekend closure.

Caltrans announced the reopening just before 11 p.m. Saturday night, which is earlier than originally anticipated. Officials thanked drivers for their patience while crews completed a road work project.
The closure began Friday at 9 p.m., impacting all southbound lanes along the busy corridor near Sorento Valley and University City.

Caltrans crews used the weekend closure to perform a culvert replacement project beneath the freeway just south of Nobel Drive, along with pavement and safety upgrades.
During the closure, motorists were detoured to alternative route, including southbound I-5 with connection to State Route 52 and Interstate 8 to rejoin I-805.
The project is part of ongoing infrastructure improvements aimed at enhancing safety, drainage systems and long-term roadway performance along the I-805 corridor.
