A boat crash in Brentwood sent three people to a hospital Sunday morning during a high school fishing competition, according to fire officials and news reports.

Three other people were evaluated at the scene after the crash, which occurred just before 7 a.m. near Orwood Resort, north of Discovery Bay, according to Contra Costa County Fire Protection Capt. Victor Daniel.

The crash reportedly sent people into the water, though the group was assisted to shore before the fire department showed up, Daniel said.

The wreck occurred when two boats crashed in the San Joaquin Delta, with one of them landing on top of the other, according to a KTVU Fox 2 report. Another boat crew assisted with the rescue while others towed the two damaged boats back to shore.

The collision occurred during a competition that brought about 50 teams of high school students from around the state to the 2026 Student Angler Federation’s California Open Challenge on Sunday, KTVU Fox 2 reported.
