Hundreds attend mailman’s retirement party
Mount Washington—John Ayala, who delivered mail for 42 years and knew everyone along his route in Mount Washington, retired in December, and about 200 of his customers recently held a farewell party for him at the Verdugo Bar in Glassell Park. “He talked with everyone,” said one person who grew up in Mount Washington. “He was a really unifying presence.” L.A. Stolen vintage guitars spark plea
Highland Park—Blues-rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa is asking his 1 million Instagram fans to help recover nearly 20 instruments stolen from L.A. session musician Mason Stoops in Highland Park. Among the missing gear are Stoops’ favorite 1965 Fender Jazzmaster, a rare 1961 Gretsch Corvette, and additional vintage equipment taken from the back of a pickup truck. Stoops, whose credits include Miley Cyrus, Sombr, and Jackson Browne, shared detailed identifying features online in hopes the instruments can be tracked down. Guitar Player

Drowning victim identified
Lincoln Heights—The man who drowned at Lincoln Park Lake last week was identified by the L.A. County Medical Examiner as 55-year-old Juan Andrade, who was found unresponsive at the bottom of the lake and declared dead at a hospital. The victim’s 16-year-old son was rescued by a LAPD dive team.
Group walks from Silver Lake to the beach
Silver Lake—A hardy group of 30 pedestrians walked the entire 14.5 miles of Santa Monica Boulevard on Sunday, from Sunset Junction to the ocean. It was the fifth annual “big walk” led by Pedro Moura, which in the past has also traversed the lengths of Wilshire Boulevard, Sunset Boulevard, Western Avenue, and Pico Boulevard. “Santa Monica Boulevard proved to the be the most accessible path so far,” Moura writes, though this year’s trek took about nine hours.
