(FOX40.COM) — The Sacramento Police Department conducted a DUI checkpoint along Broadway on Monday, targeting impaired driving as part of increased enforcement tied to “4/20,” a day associated with cannabis use.
The checkpoint was set up near the intersection of Broadway and 21st Street, where officers stopped eastbound traffic between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. According to Sacramento police, the location was selected based on a history of traffic collisions in the area.
Sacramento police said that a total of 764 vehicles passed through the checkpoint. Officers conducted 68 driver’s license checks during the operation.
Authorities reported issuing 30 citations to drivers operating vehicles with suspended or revoked licenses or without a valid license. An additional 20 citations were issued for other violations.
The checkpoint was staffed by a combination of police personnel, volunteers, chaplains, cadets, members of Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the Sacramento County Crime Lab.
SPD said DUI checkpoints are aimed at reducing impaired driving and increasing public safety by deterring motorists from driving under the influence.
