BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Kern County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed a second person was arrested in connection with a deadly shooting on Knotts Street.

KCSO said on April 13, 2026, at around 10:15 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the 600 block of Knotts Street for a report of a shooting. When deputies arrived, they found two victims, both men.
Both were taken to a hospital, where one of the victims, later identified as 30-year-old Arthur Deray Ward, was later pronounced dead.

KCSO said 21-year-old Matthew Ryan Rodriguez was arrested.
Rodriguez pleaded not guilty to murder and participating in a criminal street gang.
Rodriguez is expected to return to court on April 30.
Earlier this month, 22-year-old Donterrence Brown was arrested for the homicide.
Brown is expected in court on May 4.
