Bakersfield man arrested in Indiana after police seize nearly 400 pounds of cocaine

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A Bakersfield man was arrested Tuesday in Indiana after police allegedly found nearly 400 pounds of suspected cocaine in his commercial tractor, according to the Indiana State Police.

An Indiana State Police trooper conducted a traffic stop on a commercial motor vehicle speeding on I-70 near Cloverdale in Putnam County Tuesday morning, officials said.

The trooper found “multiple criminal indicators” suggesting the driver — identified as Harmandeep Singh, 27, of Bakersfield — was operating below industry standards, according to Indiana State Police.

The trooper reportedly got consent to search the tractor and trailer and found several duffle bags and cardboard boxes containing about 392 pounds of suspected cocaine.

The estimated street value of the seized narcotics is about $9 million, officials said.

Singh was booked into the Putnam County Jail on suspicion of narcotics-related charges.
