UCPD responded to a dead body outside Sproul Hall this afternoon, which the Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau secured and removed. Officers taped off the surrounding area before the coroner transported the man into a vehicle at approximately 2 p.m.
The deceased man does not appear to be affiliated with campus and there was no immediate indication of foul play, according to UCPD Sgt. Jacob Westlie. He wrote in a statement that UC Berkeley staff first located the man at approximately noon.
This is the second death to occur on campus property within the last 24 hours.
Westlie added that counseling services are available at Counseling and Psychological Services for the campus community.
