SAN JOSE – Right back Jack Jasinski scored in his first career MLS start and star signee Timo Werner scored the winner on a penalty kick in the 78th minute, helping the San Jose Earthquakes continue their best start in club history with a 5-1 win over Austin FC Wednesday night at PayPal Park.
The Quakes (8-1-0, 24 points), who now have the best record in MLS, added three more goals after the 83rd minute. That included a brace from Preston Judd, who converted a pair of crosses from Paul Marie, and a fifth goal of the season for Stanford product Ousseni Bouda, tying him with Judd for the team lead.

Despite the lopsided final, the Quakes fell behind in the ninth minute after a blunder by captain Ronaldo Vieira. The defensive midfielder made an errant pass across the middle of the field that led to a breakaway for Joseph Morales, who beat Daniel 1-on-1.
It was only the fourth goal allowed by the Quakes, tied for the fewest in the league.
Despite dominating possession – the Quakes finished with a 37-6 edge in shots – the Black and Blue weren’t able to equalize until Jasinski’s towering header off a corner kick from Niko Tsakiris in the 57th minute.
Jasinski, the team’s second-round pick in the 2026 MLS SuperDraft from Princeton, had played just 14 MLS minutes entering Wednesday but had scored last week in the team’s U.S. Open Cup win over Phoenix Rising. He became the ninth San Jose player to score in league play.
The Quakes took the lead 20 minutes later after Jamar Ricketts was brought down in the box. Werner sent keeper Brad Stuver the wrong way from the penalty spot to score his second goal since arriving from Germany at the start of the season.
The Quakes will look to extend their club-record four-game road winning streak on Saturday against St. Louis CITY SC (1-4-3, 6 points). The 2022 New York Red Bulls are the only other team in MLS history to start with five straight road wins.
