Get ready to dust off the shoulder pads and tease up that hair — BART is taking riders back to the ‘80s for its latest community event.

The transit agency plans to host its first community prom on June 6, taking over the Rockridge Station parking lot for “Enchantment Under the C Line.” The 1980s-themed all-ages dance party will feature a DJ and live band playing hits from the era, along with bottomless punch, photo booths and more. Food will also be available for purchase onsite.

“BART Prom is a playful way to celebrate transit as a community space. Events like this tap into the joy and connection that public transit can create,” Michelle Robertson, BART’s principal marketing representative, told the Chronicle. “Our events generate enthusiasm for the system, build ridership and encourage people to ride for fun, all while reminding our community that BART is more than a commute — it’s part of the cultural life of the Bay Area.”

Tickets are $15 and include BART-inspired boutonnieres and corsages. Attendees are encouraged to wear any generation of prom attire.

Ahead of the event, BART will host a prom court contest. Those who wish to enter must post their best BART promposal to social media and tag BART by May 31. The pool will be narrowed down to three finalists that will be voted on by the public on Instagram before the June dance.

Winners will be awarded onsite, receiving free entry to the event and BART-themed crowns.

The BART prom follows the agency’s recent success with other community programming such as its annual Valentine’s Day speed dating event, Valentraine, its Star Wars-inspired May the Fourth ride and its holiday SweaterFest.
