Two men, one a student and one not, died on or very near UC Berkeley’s campus this week.

The student, 21,  appears to have fallen from a Durant Avenue housing complex Tuesday. The other man was found dead outside Sproul Hall Wednesday.

UCPD officers first went to the Unit 3 Residence Hall shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday after a report that someone had fallen, Sgt. Jacob Westlie said in an email. The student, a Berkeley resident, was pronounced dead at the scene within minutes.

The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office’s Coroner’s Bureau said his cause of death was still pending investigation, though Westlie said “no foul play is suspected.”

The next day, shortly after noon, university staff found another man dead, this time in some bushes near Sproul Hall, Westlie said. The coroner’s office has not yet identified that man, and his cause of death is also pending, but Westlie said there was “no immediate indication of foul play” in that death either.

University officials invited students and staff who might need them to use university counseling services. Alameda County offers a 24-hour crisis support line for those seeking mental health assistance. The support line can be reached at 800-309-2131.
