Last week, an exciting new cocktail bar opened in North Beach. The neighborhood is known for its history and thriving bar scene, with the streets packed on weekends. The new bar, Long Weekend, is located in a historic bank from the 1920s that has been renovated to accommodate its latest venture.
Long Weekend is aptly named; the bar’s theme is a far-off getaway that changes every nine months. The first location is Havana, with the bar designed to create an immersive experience through Cuban culture. Havana was picked as the debut destination due to its impact on the cocktail world.

Fittingly, the menu features nine custom rum blends selected from over 150 rums tasted by the beverage team. “We scoured through distribution catalogs looking for intriguing rums at mixable price points, then categorized them into base rums, modifier rums and overproof rums,” said Beverage Director Jayson Wilde.
The result is a cocktail menu that features daiquiris and mojitos with flavored versions, including strawberry and watermelon. You can also find classic cocktails like the Hotel Nacional, Canchánchara, and more. To further the experience, the bar will host live traditional and modern Cuban music, and you can expect the performances to pop up in various spaces throughout the bar. For the bar’s opening night on October 23, pianist and curator of the music program Alejandro Del Valle performed along with bass player Ryan Trujillo and drummer Ricardo Lomeli Gomez.

The bar also includes a gallery showcasing pieces from Cuban artist Reynerio Tamay, and new artists will be featured with each new destination. Additionally, the building’s historic bank vault with safe deposit boxes has been transformed for the bar’s Keyholder Club, with each member having a safety deposit box complete with tasting glasses, table games, and more.
Long Weekend is the latest opening from Future Bars, the group behind popular speakeasy Bourbon & Branch and the classic jazz bar Dawn Club.
