FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Earlier this week, the U.S. Forest Service asked people not to dial 911 if they saw smoke coming from the Fresno County foothills – but they didn’t expect a wildfire to start in the same area.

On Wednesday evening, the Hog Fire ignited just north of Pine Flat Lake. The county’s supervisor, Nathan Magsig, reported it had grown to 15 acres by 9 p.m.

The new fire is about 20 miles south of Camp Sierra, where the U.S. Forest Service resumed prescribed burn operations on Tuesday.

At the time, the USFS said smoke and fire would be visible from a large area around the Big Creek Drainage and that “there is no need to dial 911 as safety personnel will be on scene monitoring fire activity.”

YourCentralValley.com reached out to ask what, if any, impact the prescribed burn had on the Hog Fire and its response time.
