Mayor Gloria’s team misses every opportunity to educate San Diegans about the benefits of increasing transit occupancy taxes (on hotel rooms) in response to our bitter dislike of parking fees at Balboa Park and beaches. San Diego should follow the example of other large cities and let visitors help fund our local government. (San Diego’s rates are 1%-2% lower than other comparable cities.) Voters shouldn’t automatically vote no when they see a tax increase.
