SAN DIEGO, Calif. (FOX5) — San Diegans are joining a nationwide effort to end pancreatic cancer this Saturday, April 25. The San Diego affiliate of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is hosting its annual PurpleStride walk at De Anza Cove.
Pancreatic cancer affects far too many, including San Diego Police Captain Brian Avera, who passed away earlier this month at just 43 years old.
For patients, survivors, and families who have lost loved ones, events like PurpleStride provide a powerful sense of community, support, and hope.
An estimated 67,000 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year, with roughly 52,000 losing their lives to the disease.
The goal of PurpleStride is to raise awareness and funding for future research and treatments. In San Diego, organizers are aiming to raise $300,000, with a nationwide goal of $17 million.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the walk commences at 9 a.m.
