BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Rowdy the Roadrunner, the mascot for CSU Bakersfield, is set to get his own statue in the Meadows Field Airport.
CSUB and Meadows Field Airport have agreed to display a statue of Rowdy in the William M. Thomas terminal, according to the Kern County Board of Supervisors meeting agenda for Tuesday.
The statue is 6 feet, 2 inches tall and 36 inches in diameter, weighing about 500 pounds, according to officials.
The statue is meant to promote the university at a location that receives many visitors, officials said in the agenda.
CSUB would be responsible for buying and delivering the statue to the county, as well as conducting annual inspections to check for any needed repairs the university would also pay for.
The county would be tasked with installing the statue at a location that would later be approved by both CSUB and the Director of Airports. The location would be a place suited for public display with minimal disruptions to airport operations, according to the agenda.
Kern County would also handle light maintenance and let the university know if the statue needs any major repair, replacement or relocation.
The Board of Supervisors is being asked to approve the memorandum of understanding between CSUB and Meadows Field Airport during the regular Board meeting at 9 a.m. April 28 at 1115 Truxtun Ave., according to the agenda.
