Re “Proposed revamp of county government goes to the ballot” (April 22): First, let’s talk about transparency and “limiting” the supervisors to three terms. The wording sounds like it’s placing a limit on the number of terms rather than extending the limit of terms from two to three. This is typical “political speak,” which, while not out-and-out lying, is truly deceptive.
Second, term limits for the county’s district attorney, sheriff, treasurer and assessor “only if state law allows.” State law does not allow this. Why even include this except to make it appear even more attractive to those who prefer term limits?
Third, other proposals merit consideration but they should be proposed without the self-serving proposal to extend their terms.
I think term limits are a great idea and should limit the number of terms professional politicians can serve in any capacity, not just for a particular office.
