On May 9, the Coastal Encinitas Rotary Club will send hundreds of golf balls raining down from a helicopter onto Hole No. 1 at Encinitas Ranch Golf Course—transforming a familiar stretch of green into one of North County’s most distinctive and anticipated community fundraisers, according to a news release.

The annual Golf Ball Drop & Silent Auction invites participants to purchase numbered golf balls for a chance to win cash prizes when they land closest to the target. This year’s prizes include $2,000 for first place, $1,000 for second, and $500 for third.

While the aerial drop is the highlight, the evening begins well before the helicopter arrives. From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., guests gather for a lively coastal reception featuring drinks, heavy appetizers, desserts, and live music. A thoughtfully curated silent auction runs throughout the evening, offering a range of experiences that reflect both the spirit of the community and the generosity of local partners.

Featured auction highlights include the Encinitas Ranch Signature Golf Experience, a private Cape Coral waterfront retreat, a Premium Padres Game Night featuring two coveted season ticket holder seats with a choice of three pre-selected games, a VIP hosted San Diego Bay cruise, and an unforgettable Firehouse Dinner for six inside a working Encinitas fire station.

As the evening builds, guests begin to gather outdoors just before 6:30 p.m., turning their attention skyward as the helicopter approaches. Moments later, hundreds of golf balls are released, scattering across the fairway toward the target below.While attending offers the full experience, community members who are unable to be there in person can still participate in the golf ball drop, with winners notified following the event.
