Billboard recognizes Occidental as a top music business program
Eagle Rock—Billboard has named Occidental College among its top music business schools for 2024, highlighting the launch of the John Branca Institute for Music. Endowed with a $5 million gift from alum John Branca, the institute links students to the music industry through programs like the Harvard Negotiation Project. This is the sixth consecutive year the school has been honored.

Hospital awarded $200,000 grant
Boyle Heights—Adventist Health White Memorial’s Healthcare Workforce Development Program is marking 20 years of preparing students from East L.A., Boyle Heights and Montebello for careers in healthcare. The program, launched with a $1 million Bank of America grant, has helped more than 2,000 Angelenos gain job skills in high-demand medical fields. To celebrate the milestone, hospital and bank officials on Sunday announced that Bank of America awarded an additional $200,000 grant, bringing its total investment to more than $2 million.
Toothbrush maker on the move
Boyle Heights: Electric toothbrush and water flosser maker AquaSonic has moved its headquarters from Chinatown to a much larger space in Boyle Heights to accommodate its fast-growing business, according to the L.A. Business Journal. The company, which designs and engineers electric toothbrushes and water flossers, recently launched its new Precision line in more than 1,400 Walmart stores nationwide—its latest retail expansion after partnerships with Walgreens and Amazon.
