BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A 37-year-old felony probationer was arrested in Bakersfield after officers allegedly found a loaded, unregistered gun and ammunition during a home check.

The Kern County Probation Department said on April 27, 2026, officers with the department’s Adult Probation Services Division conducted a home call on the 3500 block of Redlands Drive in Bakersfield.

The department said officers contacted 37-year-old Christopher Smith, who is on felony probation.

According to officials, during the search, officers allegedly found a loaded, unregistered, Polymer 80, 9mm semi-automatic pistol and ammunition.

Smith was arrested for a violation of probation, and possession of a firearm and ammunition by a prohibited person.
