A 22-year-old Oakland man has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old Antioch woman, according to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.
Zahvon Hopson was arraigned Tuesday on a three-count criminal complaint tied to the February killing of Dimon Lasly Commodore. Prosecutors charged Hopson with murder, possession of a firearm by a felon with a prior conviction and intentional discharging of a firearm.
The murder charge includes an enhancement alleging Hopson personally and intentionally discharged a firearm, causing great bodily injury and death. The firearm-related count also carries special allegations tied to prior offenses in Contra Costa and Alameda counties.
Police say the shooting occurred on the evening of Feb. 19, 2026. Antioch officers responded to a 911 call around 7:17 p.m. in the 2200 block of Sycamore Drive, where they found Commodore suffering from two gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said Hopson fled before officers arrived. After an extensive search, he was located and arrested in San Diego on April 10 with help from local law enforcement.
Hopson is being held at the Martinez Detention Facility on $2.19 million bail. At his arraignment, he pleaded not guilty, denied all charges and enhancements and waived his right to a speedy trial.
A date for a preliminary hearing has not yet been set.
