Members of the Rincon del Diablo Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution are inviting locals to join them on Sunday at San Diego International Airport to welcome home 90 local military veterans.
Chapter members will be cheering and holding signs as veterans of World War II, Korea and Vietnam return from their three-day free Honor Flight trip to Washington, D.C. so they could see their war memorials.
Those who want to participate in the free welcome event need to arrive by noon on Sunday and gather at the Terminal 2 baggage claim area in San Diego International Airport, 3225 N. Harbor Drive. Details can be found at HonorFlightSanDiego.org.

The celebratory “Heroes Welcome” is designed to give many of the veterans the welcome they did not receive when returning from the warfront decades ago.
The welcome is among the patriotic activities the Rincon del Diablo chapter does for veterans and military personnel throughout the year, according to DAR member Sheila Munger. Others include providing snacks and books to the USO, sending notes of thanks to military members and veterans, contributing to food drives and placing Christmas wreaths on veterans’ graves.

The chapter is open to women in Rancho Bernardo, Poway, Ramona, Escondido, San Marcos, Julian, Temecula, Valley Center and adjacent communities. They all have a documented ancestor who was in the American Revolution.
The nonprofit, nonpolitical volunteer women’s organization meets monthly, often with its luncheon meetings for members and prospective members held at The Heights Golf Club in Rancho Bernardo. For details, visit escondido.californiadar.org.
