BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A GoFundMe was created for the couple who were killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Harris Road, for their funeral costs and to support their son.

The Bakersfield Police Department said on April 23, 2026, at around 6:45 p.m., officers were called to a crash in the intersection of Harris Road and Summer Springs.

Officers found three vehicles involved: a silver Toyota SUV, a silver Ford SUV, and a silver Honda sedan.

A preliminary investigation found that all three vehicles were traveling eastbound on Harris Road before the crash. The Ford and Honda were at the intersection with Summer Springs Drive, which is controlled by stop signs in all four directions.

The Toyota rear-ended the Ford at a high rate of speed, causing the Ford to hit the Honda.

Police said impairment by the driver of the Toyota is unknown at this time.

The sole occupant of the Toyota, identified as 34-year-old Sandra Lee Slaydon, was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where she later died to her injuries.

A man and a woman inside the Ford died at the scene. The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified the couple as 49-year-old Omar Zacarias and 51-year-old Silvia Reyes, both of Bakersfield.

A GoFundMe has been made for Omar Zacarias and Silvia Reyes for funeral expenses and for the couple’s son.

It said, “The funds raised will help cover essential living expenses, such as housing, food, and utilities, so he can focus on healing without worrying about basic necessities. Additionally, the support will go toward funeral costs to honor his parents’ memory and provide access to counseling services to help him process his grief and begin to rebuild his life.”
