SACRAMENTO — Police here have arrested five suspects, including three Bay Area residents, in an ambush shooting that killed an 18-year-old woman outside a party.
Authorities say the suspects fired 70 shots at a crowd of people, intending to hit a local rapper and his entourage. The incident occurred on March 15, outside an impromptu event on the 4300 block of Auburn Boulevard in Sacramento.
The five suspects include two juveniles, of Oakland and Sacramento, who have not been publicly identified. The three adults suspects were identified by police as Juan Colmenero, 20, of Emeryville, Kymani Agbouti, 18, of Vallejo, and Avante Washington, 18, of Antelope.
Authorities say they rounded up the four teens in a series of raids on April 20. Colmenero allegedly fled to Puerto Rico, but was arrested April 29 at San Francisco International Airport, authorities said.
All five were booked on murder charges. Police say the woman who was killed, Arianna Arissara Hissom, was simply an innocent bystander who was caught in the crossfire, along with a male companion who was wounded. Hissom was in a rideshare vehicle attempting to leave when she was killed.
An online obituary for Hissom describes her as a college student at CSU Sacramento who aspired to next attend medical school and become a psychiatrist. She grew up in Maryland and Santa Cruz County, the obituary says.
“Most recently as a teenager she lived a life of service to others,” the obituary says. “This included volunteering at Jacob’s Heart preparing grocery deliveries for families with cancer-stricken children, volunteering at Sutter Hospital in reception, and working at the Teen Kitchen Project where she prepared nourishing meals for people with serious illnesses.”
Police say the five suspects were waiting in a car for their intended target to leave the party, then opened fire into a large crowd when they saw him. The intended victim, who escaped injury, was not publicly identified by police.
