A 39-year-old dance instructor who taught at a performing arts academy in Carlsbad was arrested this week on suspicion of sexually assaulting at least three women while they were teenage students at the studio.

Darnay Luckie, also known as Ledarnay Luckie Fontenette, was booked Wednesday on multiple allegations of lewd or lascivious acts upon a child who is 14 or 15 years old, according to online arrest logs.

The investigation into Luckie began after a woman came to detectives in December and said that her dance instructor — when she was a teenager — had sexually assaulted her at Carlsbad Performing Arts Academy on Avenida Encinitas near Palomar Airport Road, investigators said.

During the course of their investigation, detectives found two more women who made similar allegations in connection to their time as teenage students at the same studio.

Investigators confirmed that Luckie had worked as an instructor at multiple studios between 2011 and 2017, including the Academy and DanceFX in San Marcos.

Carlsbad Performing Arts Academy staff declined to comment on the arrest Thursday.

On a website that appears to be for his business, as well as on his social media, Luckie describes himself as a former professional dancer that has been working as a certified cosmetologist in Solana Beach.

No other information was immediately available.

Detectives said they believe there may be additional victims who have not yet been identified and asked anyone with information related to contact Carlsbad police Detective Paige Haar at (760) 579-2824 or paige.haar@carlsbadca.gov.
