OAKLAND — A wrong-way crash on an East Bay freeway early Thursday killed one person and injured another, the California Highway Patrol said.

The wreck happened about 2:50 a.m. on westbound Interstate 580 near the Seminary Avenue exit.

According to the CHP, one vehicle ran head-on into another vehicle on the freeway and slightly collided with another one. The wrong-way driver died at the scene.

Authorities did not identify the dead person immediately, pending the investigation and notification of relatives.

The driver of the car that was hit head-on went by ambulance to a hospital. That person’s condition was not known immediately. There were no other injuries, the CHP said.

No other information was available immediately.
