Meet ‘Chonkers,’ the 2,000-pound sea lion taking over a San Francisco pier

Sea lions at San Francisco’s Pier 39 are nothing new. But there’s a new sea lion has taken over and gone viral.

His nickname? Chonkers, a 2,000-pound Stellar sea lion who has been seen flopping up on the pier and chasing away his smaller friends.

Per the Associated Press: “Chonkers likely came from up north off the coast of Washington or Oregon and is estimated to weigh between 1,500 and 2,000 pounds (680 and 907 kilograms), said Laura Gill, public programs manager at The Marine Mammal Center in nearby Sausalito.”
