Despite the early 3-0 deficit, Scott recovered to strike out eight batters over his outing, matching his career high while allowing only three hits according to Amazin’ Avenue.
The Mets offense initiated a rally in the sixth inning when Bo Bichette hit a line drive that struck Angels pitcher Walbert Ureña, forcing his exit from the contest. Reliever Brent Suter subsequently allowed hits to Juan Soto and Alvarez, which resulted in the Mets’ first run of the night.
Marcus Semien tied the game later in the sixth inning with a clutch two-out hit that drove in two runners. The momentum shifted completely in the seventh inning when Ronny Mauricio launched a solo home run off reliever José Fermin, marking Mauricio’s first home run of the 2026 season and providing the winning margin.
The Mets bullpen maintained the lead through the final frames as Huascar Brazobán, Brooks Raley, Luke Weaver, and Devin Williams combined for four scoreless innings. The relief corps ensured the one-run lead held up, preventing any Angels baserunners from reaching throughout the final seven innings of play.
The two teams are scheduled to meet again Saturday night at 9:38 p.m. at Angel Stadium. The Mets will send Nolan McLean to the mound to face Angels left-hander Reid Detmers as they look to build on their latest victory.
