One person was taken to a hospital after a lithium battery on an e-bike ignited Saturday night in an apartment building near Mission Dolores, according to the San Francisco Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to a report of smoke in a building on the 1800 block of 15th Street shortly before 8:45 p.m. and contained the blaze to one room.
One person was taken to a hospital, and two others declined medical attention, the fire department said. The Red Cross was also called to the scene.
The 91-unit building houses seniors and people with disabilities.
Lithium batteries are flammable and can pose significant fire risks, often triggered by overcharging or damage, according to the Fire Safety Research Institute. Such fires, which often release toxic gases and intense flames, can be difficult to extinguish and require specific suppression.
