Drizzle returned to Bay Area skies on Sunday morning as a low pressure system brewed over the California coastline and is expected to bring a chance of light rain to the region this week.
Dial Hoang, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Bay Area office, told SFGATE the moisture from the system is “driving the gloomy conditions the marine layer has expanded upon.” Up to a quarter of an inch of rain could fall over the North Bay, with closer to a few hundredths of an inch of rain expected as far south as San Mateo county and into the East Bay, he said.
“We are expecting some pretty chilly temperatures” to accompany the precipitation, Hoang said. Daytime highs likely won’t break out of the upper 50s and lower 60s across most of the Bay Area. Some gusty winds are also possible along the coastline Monday.
But the pattern is forecast to shift on Wednesday as the low pressure system moves eastward, and warmer and drier conditions take over again. By Thursday and Friday, inland portions of the region could reach the upper 70s to the mid-80s, Hoang said. Downtown San Francisco will likely see temperatures in the mid-60s, while Oakland will top out at 70 degrees.
