HAYWARD — One person died early Sunday after a big rig and car crashed on a freeway, the California Highway Patrol said.
The crash on northbound Interstate 880 just south of the Davis Street exit happened about 4:20 a.m. and remained an active scene past 11 a.m. Sunday.
Few details were available but initial reports confirmed by the CHP said a white sedan was crushed following the wreck.
Medics rushed at least one person to a hospital, and that person died there, the agency said. The CHP did not say initially whether the person who died was in that car or the big rig.
The crash blocked all lanes of northbound I-880 south of Davis Street and brought a Sig Alert for severe traffic. All of the lanes and freeway on-ramps and off-ramps were open by 7:30 a.m.
