Cal’s Top Runners To Race In Louisville
BERKELEY – California men’s and women’s cross country teams will start their postseason run at the ACC Championships on Friday, Oct. 31 at Sawyer State Park in Louisville, KY. The women’s race will start at 6:40 a.m. PT, followed by the men’s race at 7:30 a.m. Both races will be broadcast on ACC Network and will also be available on ESPN+.Â
Junior Justin Pretre has been Cal’s top finisher on the men’s side in his last three races, including winning the titles at the USF Invitational and the Kim Duyst Twilight Invitational. Caden Carney cemented an eighth-place finish at the USF Invitational and a ninth-place finish at the Kim Duyst Twilight Invitational.Â
On the women’s side, Sophie Tau was Cal’s top finisher at the Kim Duyst Twilight Invitational and Bill Dellinger Invitational, earning top-10 finishes in both races. Tau also broke her personal record in back-to-back races, first at the Kim Duyst race with a time of 20:34.1, then at the Dellinger race with a time of 20:27.6.Â
The Golden Bears will face a tough conference championship with eight nationally-ranked teams. The men’s will face No. 4 Virginia, No. 10 Wake Forest, No. 11 Syracuse and No. 18 Stanford. The women will clash against No. 2 NC State, No. 5 Notre Dame, No. 13 Stanford and No. 15 Virginia, according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Coaches Poll. Wake Forest is looking to defend the men’s title and Notre Dame is looking to repeat as the women’s winner.Â
