Anaheim vs. Vegas: Game 1 Highlights & Predictions

The Anaheim Ducks face the Vegas Golden Knights in the Round Two opener. Vegas is favored at -164, with a 6.5 goal over/under. Expect a high-scoring series.

And also a good one on the ice tonight, game number one of their second round series, Anaheim is gonna take on Vegas.

And you take a look at some of these numbers here.

Opened around that minus 170 to minus 175 price.

It’s come down a little bit, Joe, into the 160s here, as you see the graphic, at minus 164, and a total of six and a half.

Anaheim vanquished Edmonton, and here we find ourselves now with Vegas in the second round.

Do not look to sweat out unders in this series- Donny, at all.

There are goals coming for both Vegas and Anaheim.

This is gonna be a very good series, and I think you can zigzag your way through a few of these.

it’s gonna be v- look, two games tonight, one at 7:00 and one at 9:30.

The only difference is there’s one favorite, minus 260.

We’re gonna welcome in Tom Vecchio after a busy weekend on the ice, on the diamond, on the hardcore.

Tom, how we feeling today on a Monday?

Yep.

Across the board, I’m ready to roll.

Tom, I wanna start yesterday, because hockey- has been fantastic in the playoffs, and me just watching extended hockey, like the Flyers, even though they’re gonna get pulverized against Carolina, you can still take some enjoyment.

The one series I really enjoyed was the Canadiens taking on the Lightning.

Unbelievable, crazy atmosphere in game number six, which saw the Lightning get a one to nothing win in overtime.

Now we flip it over to Sunday, where the Lightning had a full court press on offense- and the Canadiens were like, “We can’t shoot the puck on net.”

Final score, Tom, Canadiens two, Lightning one.

What?

Yeah, that’s just really the randomness when it comes down to, you know, NHL overall, but specifically the playoffs.

Those things are amplified.

You know, I would like to say that generating nine, 10, 11, 12 shots on goal per game and winning those games is not sustainable.

You can get a puck or two through, but sometimes that’s, that’s what happens in the playoffs.

All you just need is a puck or two.

I would still ultimately side with the team that’s generating 30 shots on goal, just because I know my chances are higher.

But i- it, I, I That’s not sustainable for the Habs, that’s what it comes down to.

If they do that against the Sabres, they will lose that series.

Rather be lucky than good, Tom.

the, you know, you got There was another one last night too, which might be maybe the most fun series of them all here- with Minnesota.

And what, a 15 goal You don’t see that very often, but is that what we’re expecting in this series?

you know, 15, that, you could tell me there was a lot of goals on May 4th, December 4th, whatever it was, that’s an insane amount, right?

A team scoring nine goals- Yeah is crazy any time of the year, pre-season, regular season, post-season.

You know, I think this should be one of the higher scoring series, along with the other Western Conference, matchup between Vegas and Utah.

Yeah.

15’s too much.

We’re gonna see that taper down, and obviously we’re gonna look for the pendulum to swing back to the other side, just because even though Colorado scored nine goals, they don’t wanna be giving up six, right?

Giving up six is bad.

Right.

That’s a bad thing to do, especially when it comes to the playoffs.

So both teams need to right the ship.

If the next game ended two to one, I’m not gonna be surprised, and I’m gonna be looking for that to swing back and forth.

Yeah, if you’re a prop bettor to the over in that game, you had some fun.

Goals, assists, I mean, across the board, 15 total goals in every period, man.

Just lighting it up.

I think four goals were scored in that final stanza here to give them the win for the Avalanche.

Great stuff overall.

Toughest people on the planet.

You might say, “Ah, boxer, maybe UFC.”

Nonsense, Joe Renar, it’s the NHL ice hockey player is the toughest species.

Now we find out, like, oh, what’s wrong with McDavid?

Houston couldn’t win this, or excuse me, the Oilers couldn’t win the series.

Oilers head coach, Kris Knoblauch, confirms that Connor McDavid broke his foot in game number two and was like, “Yeah, I’m still good to go, Coach.”

Yeah, I Listen, they are- What?

a different breed, Donny.

Hockey players are a different G- compare the NHL to the NBA, where a- Gee you know, somebody stubbed their toe, they would be out for a month.

you break your foot, you just keep rolling.

We saw Tkachuk with the Panthers, right?

I mean, he, he had a broken sternum.

Like, I mean, this, they are just a different, just a different type of athlete.

NBA players, not so much.

Like, you ever hurt your foot, and understand this too, like sometimes you hurt your foot, they give you, like, a soft cast, you put a nice comfortable shoe on, you limp around here.

If anybody’s never played hockey, just put on a pair of ice skates.

They’re not comfortable, they don’t move with your foot, and if you get hit with a puck or stub your toe on the ice into the boards, I would be crying.

Yet these guys are out here playing world-class hockey- with broken feet out here.

Now, it looks like the Philadelphia Flyers’ entire team played with broken feet in game number one, and here’s Rick Tocchet saying, like, “We weren’t ready to go in game number one.”

Yeah, I, I don’t know if we were mentally prepared to play tonight, in the sense I think we, the winning the g- the, you know, our playoff series, not making the playoffs, I think, you know, there lo- there was a lot of excitement.

I don’t think we got down to earth in it quick enough for this game.

and then that’s what happens, right?

Your legs aren’t there, y- you know, the reaction, right?

You know, you know the second guy’s gonna come to you, and you gotta be able to make that play, and we just didn’t make any plays, especially the first half.

I mean, there was plays to be made, we didn’t make them, and that’s really what it comes down to.

Boys must’ve had a big party after beating the Penguins, ’cause they showed up down there in Raleigh.

They were like, “You know what?

Nah, it’s not gonna be our night tonight, Joe.”

Just not gonna be our night.

Donny, listen, it happens, right?

But it also happens, feels like every year, to teams like this.

but they, listen, this is why we love it, why, I- Yeah there is nothing quite like the NHL playoffs, and a run to the Stanley Cup.

It’s so unique.

If I would’ve told you, Joe, I got the almanac and I’m gonna give it to you for a game- Mm-hmm between Colorado and Minnesota.

Only thing I’m gonna tell you, Joe, is MinnesotaScored six times.

Yeah, and I, I’d like to say this is an anomaly, but it, these two teams have this kind of firepower.

and which is what makes them so very dangerous.

Now, I don’t think we’re gonna see nine-six every game, Donny, but I, I also don’t think we’re gonna see a lot of two-ones in this series either.

In a third period late, for the game-winning goal for that to happen and you only had nine shots on net here.

And I tell you right now- Yeah you don’t wanna rile up Gritty.

And if anybody knows who Gritty is, that is the Philadelphia Flyers mascot here- Yeah and he’s a wild one.

And I remember when the Flyers were a little bit down, they introduced Gritty, and even Philadelphia’s like, “This is the stupidest thing we’ve ever seen.”

Then what happens is the rest of the NHL goes, “Ah, your mascot is stupid here.”

And then the Flyers fans go, “Don’t you dare call this mascot stupid.

He’s our mascot.”

Now he’s a maniac, and now it looks like we have a rivalry between Stormy and Gritty for round number two, Joe.

Yeah, unless it kind of grows on you though, right, Donny?

Remember that- Yeah when it first came out, it was like, “This is ridiculous.”

Yes.

And then, well, guess what?

Not so ridiculous.

By the way, he was, he was throwing penguins on the ice, beating up full caricature, like, you know, penguins at this point.

Yep.

The man is a menace, and you’re riling up this menace.

Maybe it helps the Flyers tonight.
