PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU/CNN Newsource/WKRC) – A driver allegedly drove into the side of an athletic club with an explosive device in their vehicle, sparking a fire that only killed the driver.

The crash occurred on Saturday morning at the Multnomah Athletic Club, local outlet KATU reported.

The explosive device did not ignite, however the crash started a fire in the building. First responders searched the vehicle and found the driver, who was deceased, and the explosive device.

Authorities did not specify what the device was or how explosive it was.

A spokesperson for the athletic club told authorities that the building was closed at the time of the crash. Nobody else was hurt.

Law enforcement sources told the Oregonian that the suspect was a disgruntled former employee of the gym.
