BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — A driver was seriously injured and later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after a crash with a semi-trailer on Sunday afternoon on Merle Haggard Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officers responded at around 4:45 p.m. Sunday to a report of a two-vehicle crash in the area. Investigators said a 40-year-old man driving a 2017 Ford Escape crossed from the westbound lanes into the eastbound lanes for reasons still under investigation.
At the same time, a semi-trailer was traveling eastbound on Merle Haggard Drive when the Ford collided with it. The Ford driver was taken to Kern Medical with major injuries, CHP said. The semi-trailer driver was not injured.
