A South San Francisco pedestrian died after he was struck by a driver at a major intersection near a Safeway shopping center last week, police said.
The collision was reported at about 11:33 a.m. April 28 at Chestnut Avenue and Mission Road, according to the South San Francisco Police Department. Officers responded to what police described as a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision.
The pedestrian, identified by police as Fidel Bautista, 89, of South San Francisco, suffered major injuries and was taken to a local hospital, where he later died, authorities said.
The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, police said. Authorities did not release additional details about what led to the collision, and the case remains under investigation.
