With new housing developments, shopping centers, restaurants and schools transforming Southeast Clovis, the community’s rapid growth is bringing an equally important need into focus: access to high-quality, convenient healthcare.

As more families settle in the area, access to nearby primary care has become an increasing priority. Long drive times and limited appointment availability have historically posed challenges for residents across parts of the Central Valley, making the expansion of local healthcare services especially impactful in fast-growing communities like Southeast Clovis.

A new option for primary care is now available with the opening of Inspire Health Medical Group – Specialty Shaw. The site represents an important shift in how care is delivered locally, offering patients a more accessible alternative to services that were previously concentrated in hospital-based and academic settings.

For decades, physicians from Inspire Health Medical Group’s Family and Community Medicine Department have cared for patients throughout the region, primarily in inpatient environments. The new location expands that reach into a community-based setting, helping bridge the gap between hospital care and everyday health needs. Patients can now access the same level of clinical expertise in a more convenient, neighborhood setting.

Serving patients from newborns to older adults, the Family Medicine team provides a full range of primary care services, including preventive care, chronic disease management, and routine wellness visits. The addition of this practice comes at a critical time. According to the California Health Care Foundation, the Central Valley continues to face a shortage of primary care physicians, highlighting the importance of expanding access points within growing communities.

The Clovis location offers care from Tania Zavalza Jimenez, MD, Jaime Gonzalez, MD, and Jay Khatri, NP-C along with general surgery services provided by Gerson Araujo, MD. By combining primary care and surgical services in one location, the practice aims to streamline the patient experience and reduce the need for multiple referrals or travel between facilities.

The 9,200-square-foot facility includes 18 exam rooms and space for future growth, designed to accommodate increasing demand as the surrounding area continues to develop. Its modern layout supports both efficiency and patient comfort, creating an environment suited for everything from routine check-ups to in-office procedures.

Local leaders have emphasized the broader significance of expanding healthcare infrastructure alongside residential and commercial development. At the site’s ribbon-cutting ceremony, Clovis Mayor Vong Mouanoutoua noted the ongoing need for more physicians in the region and highlighted the role that training programs play in building a sustainable healthcare workforce.

The new location also reflects a longer-term investment in medical education and physician development. Through its connection to the UCSF School of Medicine’s Fresno campus, the practice contributes to efforts aimed at preparing future physicians while encouraging them to remain in the Central Valley after completing their training.

The development of the Specialty Shaw site has been years in the making and represents a coordinated effort to address both current and future healthcare needs in the region. Community-based access to care remains a key factor in improving health outcomes, particularly in areas where provider shortages have historically limited options for patients.

As Southeast Clovis continues to evolve, the addition of new healthcare resources like Specialty Shaw represents a meaningful step toward ensuring residents have access to comprehensive, high-quality care close to home.
