A driver sought in a hit-and-run crash in Playa Del Rey that killed a 1-year-old boy and a man has been taken into custody, the LAPD tells NBC4 Investigates.

The driver was taken into police custody in the San Fernando Valley after the LAPD followed up on leads. The investigation into the deadly crash continues.

The crash happened on Vista Del Mar Avenue near Culver Boulevard at around 4:34 a.m. on Sunday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

A white Jeep Cherokee traveling southbound on Vista Del Mar Avenue crossed over into incoming traffic on the northbound lane and crashed into a blue BMW, the LAPD said.

The BMW had four people inside, including the 1-year-old boy. A man, estimated to be around 30 years old, died at the scene. The baby and a 27-year-old woman were taken to a hospital, but the young child ultimately died while being treated at the hospital.

The child’s mother told NBCLA that she was in another car when the group were heading home from a bonfire. She said the man who died in the crash was her son’s uncle, who was in another car with the child with his sister.
