WASHINGTON (TNND) — The Trump administration is filing a lawsuit against The New York Times due to its employment practices.

Earlier this week, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission lawsuit was filed in New York.

The lawsuit alleges that the newspaper didn’t hire a qualified white man who applied to work there due to the company’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) goals, according to the Politico news outlet.

“A necessary consequence of NYT’s intent to increase the percentage of non-White leaders would be a decrease in the percentage of White leaders,” the lawsuit reads.

The journalist who was allegedly discriminated against is not named in the lawsuit.

“There is no such thing as ‘reverse discrimination’; all race or sex discrimination is equally unlawful, according to long-established civil rights principles,” EEOC Chair Andrea Lucas said.

A spokesperson for The New York Times said that the newspaper practices merit-based recruiting when hiring writers.

“The allegation centers on a single personnel decision for one of over 100 deputy positions across the newsroom, yet the EEOC’s filing makes sweeping claims that ignore the facts to fit a predetermined narrative,” Rhoades Ha said in a statement.
