A 56-year-old man was arrested this week on suspicion of beating his brother in West Long Beach, leading to his death in a hospital days later, authorities said.

Marcellus Johnson, who police said was homeless, was arrested on Monday, Oct. 27, on suspicion of attempted murder after police were called about his brother, Mark Johnson, who was in a hospital with major trauma, Long Beach police said.

Mark Johnson, also 56 and a Long Beach resident, died the following day, police said.

The brothers argued in the 2500 block of Delta Avenue sometime on Sunday, Oct. 26, which led to a physical assault, police said; officers were notified that day around 6 p.m. that a man was hospitalized and appeared to be an assault victim.

Marcellus Johnson was being held in jail on $2 million bail, police said.

What the brothers argued about was unclear.
