OAKLAND — A 17-year-old boy was shot during an attempted robbery Wednesday night in East Oakland, authorities said.

He was in stable condition at a hospital where he was being treated for a wound to his leg, authorities said Thursday morning.

The violent confrontation happened about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday in the 2200 block of 81st Avenue.

According to initial police reports, the boy was outside when a car pulled up and a man got out, pointed a gun at the youth and demanded his property, which included a scooter and cell phone.

The boy then got into a struggle with the man during which he was shot in the leg, police said.  The suspect fled in the vehicle, which contained at least two other people, authorities said.

A detailed description of the suspect who confronted the teen was not released.
