An Indian-origin 20-year-old man has been reported missing after his parents dropped him near San Jose State University on Monday afternoon, authorities said.

According to the San Jose State University Police Department, Arnav Singh was reported missing by his parents on May 5.

Captain Jermaine Thomas, a spokesperson for the university police department, said Singh is not currently a student at San Jose State University.

“He was not at the library,” Thomas told indica. “We checked all cameras and Singh was dropped outside the campus Southern building.”

Police said officers responded around 5:16 p.m. to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library at 150 E. San Fernando St. in San Jose after meeting with Singh’s parents. Authorities searched multiple areas throughout San Jose but did not locate him.

Singh was last seen wearing a brown shirt, black sweatpants and carrying a black Step Function backpack, police said. He is described as 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighing about 165 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

“He never entered the campus and we have done our investigation,” Thomas told indica. “We have put a lot of officers in searching around the campus searching for him.”

“We are currently still searching for him,” he said.

Thomas said Singh’s parents likely dropped him off about 90 minutes before police received the missing person report.

Priya Junnarkar, a community member assisting the family in the search efforts, said Singh is a resident of Palo Alto. She said he graduated from Henry M. Gunn Senior High School, took a gap year after high school and planned to attend San Jose State University in the fall.

“Everyone is searching the San Jose area,” Junnarkar told indica. “We have reached the sheriff, the fire department and we are trying a lot of things.”

Junnarkar said Singh was dropped off near the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library.
