Baristas vote to unionize at east Bakersfield Starbucks
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Baristas at an east Bakersfield Starbucks location voted Wednesday to unionize, according to a release.
The baristas voted at the Starbucks located at 6001 Niles St. voted to join Starbucks Workers United. A statement said that union includes more than 12,000 baristas at more than 580 stores across the United States.

In their vote to join Starbucks Workers United, baristas are fighting for better hours to improve staffing, higher take-home pay and resolution of hundreds of unfair labor practices, according to a release.
Workers at Costco, Target, Barnes & Noble and Amazon have also voted to unionize in recent years.
This vote marks the Bakersfield location as the 63rd unionized store in California, the union said.
