(KRON) — Police in East Bay are investigating a homicide that occurred Wednesday evening in West Oakland, according to authorities.
The Oakland Police Department responded just after 6 p.m. to the 800 block of West Grand Avenue on the report of an assault. Arriving officers located an assault victim, identified as a male Oakland resident, and attempted life-saving measures. Despite efforts, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, OPD said Thursday morning.
Detectives with the OPD Homicide Division are investigating the circumstances surrounding the killing. No information about a potential suspect was released as of Thursday morning.
